It’s been a great long weekend with the girls – only today to go before I take them back to their mum’s for another two weeks. Alice said something I’ve been dreading hearing and even trying to prepare myself as best I could for this moment, it still winded me pretty badly.
“He is our stepdad”
Words I’ve been dreading hearing
Thought I was ready…
Tbh honest m8 i know how you feel however i’ve not had that situation been put before me just yet, so far its just been “boyfriend”. Maybe Sarah is just handling the situation and doesn’t want the girls to feel strange considering the new addition. You have to remember, young children view mummy, daddy, baby, however Alice and Elisa know you are thier dad and it saves confusion for them.
In saying that, having taken the party political line, she obviously hasn’t given a monkeys chuff about your feelings in all this so this is where you have to be strong mentally and take this advice given sternly but with the best intentions.
Do not let this small matter get to you, in the grand scheme of things it is a small matter because you have what is important, the girls and the knowledge that they know and love you as THIER dad.
Good god i’m good sometimes, even surprise myself. Anyway, i’m chuffed the girls and you had a great time this weekend, the two of them must blossom in the sunshine because every picture you took they looked gorgeous m8 you should and probably are, quite rightly VERY proud of them 🙂 well thats my five minutes of fame over 🙂
Cheers Hag – wise words indeed.
It hit me quite hard at first but I’m okay with it. I guess it was an inevitable step, especially with the new addition to the “family”?
It’s hard when Alice shows me pictures on her camera or goes on about little Florence etc. It’s surprising how tiring it can be trying to show enthusiasm on the subject. It’s not her fault, she doesn’t understand how hard it is and I’m certainly not in any way holding it against her. She’s excited because of the baby…what can you do?
I’ll be writing up a post covering the weekend in the coming days when I get a chance. We did indeed have a great time and having them for five days, well, it was fantastic!
